Festival des 3 continents in Nantes : the program unveiled !

The Festival des 3 Continents, in Nantes, celebrates its fortieth anniversary with a dense and exciting selection. A brief overview of what awaits us from November 20 to 27.

For those who do not know, the Festival des 3 continents offers since 1979 a selection of fiction films and documentaries from Africa, Latin America and Asia.

The opening and closing films had already been announced in October. This year, the film The birds of passage, directed by Cristina GALLEGO and Ciro GUERRA, will be honored at the opening ceremony of the Festival. It was noticed during the Directors’ Fortnight at the Cannes Film Festival and a few weeks ago at the London Film Festival.

40 years of cinema

To celebrate the 40th edition of the Festival, the programming team has chosen to offer a selection of 40 films from the last 20 years (with two exceptions), which reflect contemporary cinema in Africa, Latin America and Asia.

We find films acclaimed by the critics in recent years as Yi Yi by Edward Yang, Still Life by Jia Zhang-Ke, Uncle Boonmee (the one who remembers his past lives) of Apichatpong Weerasethakul or Five by Abbas Kiarostami.

The UFO of the Festival is La flor, a film by the Argentine Mariano LLinàs that has the particularity of lasting 808′ or more than 14 hours ! It will be screened in four separate sessions, in consultation with the film’s director, and the programming team promises a dense film that plays with genres and constantly changes and upsets the viewer. We can’t wait to see it !
